These letter templates are part of the method described in the Debt Negotiation Guide for dealing with debt without borrowing more money or using other professional services. If you prefer to let experienced debt advisors work on your behalf rather than doing it yourself, You should look at the pages on Debt Settlement, Debt Management Plans and IVAs.
The Debt Negotiation Guide explains the other things you need to do in order to begin to tackle your debt problems. When you send these letters to your creditors you will need to include with the letters a Financial Statement that you have prepared. A guide to how to prepare this and a template form for a Personal Financial Statement can be found on the Personal Financial Statement page.
When you look at the Debt Negotiation Guide you will see that you need to split your creditors into two groups, so there are two template letters below, one for each group of creditors. These are your Priority Creditors and your Secondary Creditors. When you write to both groups you need to include your Financial Statement, and this is so that they can see what your situation is in black and white and know that you do not have the money to meet your normal payments.
The easiest way to use the free sample letters to creditors is to copy and paste them info Microsoft Word or similar word processing programme. That will then enable you to add your own details and amend the letter to suit your own needs.

Dear Sir/Madam
Account number/agreement number, etc
I wrote to you recently to explain that I am currently experiencing financial difficulties due to...
I enclose a financial statement which gives details of my current situation, showing all my income and expenditure and my other Priority Creditors.
I am sure you will understand from my financial statement that I am not in a position to meet my obligations in full, so I am making offers to each of my priority creditors. I am therefore able to offer you £... per week/month.
I do hope this is acceptable, and if you could confirm your agreement to this offer in writing I can begin payments immediately. Please also advise me of the method and due date for such payments.
I look forward to your favourable reply,
Yours sincerely,
